In 1770 a Swiss watch maker by the name of Abraham-Louis Perrelet invented the automatic watch. Perrelet developed a self-winding mechanism for pocket watches using simple principles applied in modern pedometers. Just a few years after his invention, the Geneva Society of Arts reported that Perrelet's invention allowed the watch to wind sufficiently for eight days of time-keeping with only 15 minutes of walking. And so the automatic mechanical watch was born. How Does an Automatic Mechanically Driven Watch Work?
An Automatic mechanical watch is powered by an internal mainspring that is wound automatically as a result of natural motion of the wearer's arm. The eccentric weight (the rotor) pivots on its staff that is attached to a ratcheted winding mechanism. The movement provides the energy necessary to have the JORD watch function properly. The automatic watch movement has surpassed other mechanical movements and made the manual winding watches unnecessary or obsolete.Below is a brief image and description as to how an automatic movement works:

- Movement of the wrist turns the rotor which winds the mainspring. Turning the crown will also wind the mainspring
- The gear train transfers the energy to the escapement
- The Escapement meters out the energy into regulated parts.
- The balance wheel uses this regulated energy to beat back and forth at a constant rate.
- Every certain number of beats, the Dial Train transfers the energy to the hands of the watch.
- The hands advance.
