Golden Camphor
(Cinnamomum camphora)
COLOR & APPEARANCE
The color of Camphor can be highly variable depending on the species and growing conditions. JORD selects stock that is light brown, with shades of grey & olive green, creating a golden hue. Paler sapwood isn’t always clearly differentiated from the heartwood.

GRAIN/TEXTURE
Camphor grain can show a variety of patterns: straight, interlocked, and wavy can all be present in a single piece. The texture is uniform, with a high natural luster and a soft buttery feel.
SUSTAINABILITY
Camphor is not listed in the CITES Appendices or on the IUNC Red List of Threatened Species, although a few related species are listed as vulnerable/endangered due to a population reduction of over 20% to 50% in the past three generations, caused by a decline in its natural range, and exploitation.
